Founded in 2013 by Vahe Keushguerian, a wine industry veteran with extensive experience in Italy, the United States, and Armenia, Keush represents a unique blend of innovation and tradition. The winery draws inspiration from the village of Khachik, a rural community in southwestern Armenia, perched at over 1,800 meters above sea level. In this rugged landscape, ungrafted vines aged 60 to 100 years thrive in volcanic soils, producing unique Armenian grape varieties such as Areni, Voskehat, and Khatouni.
Keush sparkling wines are not just beverages; they are a true expression of the extreme terroir of Khachik, where vines flourish in harsh conditions at over 1,800 meters above sea level. The volcanic and limestone soils impart the grapes with unparalleled minerality and complexity. These challenging conditions give rise to wines of exceptional character, making every bottle a tribute to the resilience of Armenian viticulture.
Why Keush is Poised to Become a Leading Name in Fine Wines
What sets Keush apart in the sparkling wine world is not just its high-altitude vineyards or the use of indigenous grape varieties. It’s the fusion of ancient winemaking methods with modern techniques, all in a region steeped in millennia of history and geopolitical significance. The wines, like the region they come from, tell a story of survival and revival.
Unveiling Armenian Viticulture
Keush focuses on indigenous grape varieties that have survived centuries of geopolitical upheaval, adding a layer of cultural authenticity that few wines can claim. Their traditional winemaking methods ensure that each bottle faithfully reflects Armenia’s unique terroir, offering wine enthusiasts a taste of a region with millennia-old winemaking roots.
