Syrah

Wines made from Syrah Grape variety

Syrah makes the glory of great wines like Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie. It is cultivated all over the world, especially in Australia, under the name of Shiraz.

For some, the Syrah would come from the city of Schiraz in Iran. Others believed that the introduction of syrah plants in France dates back to the 3rd century, when the emperor Probus allowed the resumption of vineyards in Gaul. Finally, some invoke a Rhone origin. Recently, the genome of Syrah has revealed Mondeuse, a Savoyard grape, among these ancestors.

This grape produces a black, peppery, structured wine, with aromas of black fruit and sometimes violet. It is used alone in certain great wines from the northern Côtes du Rhône. It is also used as a varietal enhancer for wines from Mediterranean countries to provide structure and fragrances.

Syrah is cultivated in Armenia by Karas Wines, in the Armavir region and byTrinity Canyon Vineyardsin Vayots Dzor. Syrah is part of the blend of Karas ClassicKaras Réserve and Grand Karas red wines. Recently Karas presented three monovarietal wines made from Syrah: Karas Single Vineyard Syrah Reserve, Kraki Ktor Syrah Volcanic, Kraki Ktor Syrah Alluvial.
